I love working directly with the playwright, as well as the amazing experience of seeing a vision realized with a talented group of actors and designers. Nothing thrills me more than new work and I take great joy in script readings and workshops. I feel that a director should be an explorer of ideas - their own and those of their collaborators. To me, it is the director's role to guide the vision of the production, instead of controlling it.
For a specific example of my directing style, please check out the Down the Moonlit Path website, which is dedicated to a project I envisioned while reading old folk stories and for which I then had the great luck to find an incredible adaptor, and my favorite collaborator, Tate A. Geborkoff. You can head over to psychopomp-cast.com to learn more about our current project.

What People Are Saying
"Both the performers and the audience are illuminated from each other, which is vital to a happening that combines culture, humanity and commonality into an essential dance. The way it was adapted – through the genius of scenario writer Tate A. Geborkoff, director Rachel Staelens and their army of production miracle workers – is what makes the trip so worthwhile."

"Director Rachel Staelens and Nothing Without a Company, using Tate A. Geborkoff’s adaptations of nine folktales from around the world, have artfully fashioned an evening of promenade-style theater in which the audience literally wanders."

"The play’s scenes flow naturally into one another under Rachel Stalens’[sic] direction, and I never found myself restless during the numerous scene changes. Stalens’[sic] direction is top-notch, even despite the fact that a few characters and plot points are not fully developed in Palmer’s play."
